2024 DDETFP Award

Four students from the University of Hawaii at Manoa are recipients of the 2024-2025 Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowships from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), through a local competition facilitated by The College of Engineering at UHM. The awards total $31,000.
The program’s mission is to attract qualified students to the field of transportation and research, and advance transportation workforce development.
The UHM recipients include graduate and undergraduate students majoring in civil engineering, architecture, urban planning, and information and computer sciences. The awardees include:
• Ruimin Lin, recipient of an $8,500 fellowship to work with Dr. Roger Chen researching Equity in Public Transit Service in Honolulu with Open-Source Transit Data and Tools. Ruimin was born in Honolulu and is currently a junior in Civil Engineering and interns with the Traffic Group at SSFM.
• Dingyi Liu, recipient of a $10,000 fellowship to Assess the Relationship Between Zoning and Walkability of Honolulu. Dr. Suwan Shen is his advisor. Dingyi is currently a MURP student with the Department of Regional and Urban Planning and a graduate research assistant with Hawaiʻi Sea Grant.
• Paul Mullins, recipient of a $7,000 fellowship to work with Dr. Kevin Nute on researching Design Strategies to enhance Transportation Accessibility for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease. Paul is currently an MArch student at the School of Architecture; and
• Myra Angelica Ortigosa, recipient of a $5,500 fellowship to work with Dr. Kyungim Baek on Computer Vision Applications to Traffic Signal Control. Myra is currently a junior in Computer Science at the School of Information and Computer Sciences.
Part of the Eisenhower award supports Fellows to participate in the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting, scheduled for Jan. 5–9, 2025, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to all fellows.
