Modeling and Characterization of Density-Driven Flow in Variably Saturated Aquifers in Hawaii
Dr. Jonghyun Harry Lee is one of several main investigators for the NSF-funded EPSCoR project (about $20 million) Ike Wai (2017-2022). The plan is to develop numerical models of density-driven flow in variably saturated aquifers in Hawaii. Based on the variable density flow models and hydro-geophysical and geochemical observations, the team will estimate unknown subsurface structures, aquifer boundaries and so on and quantify their estimation uncertainty. This work will support for decision-making systems in which reliable water supply decisions would be made possible through real-time data assimilation.
